Personal Mobility Devices(PMDs)
devices meant to provide mobility to people who are less mobile, such as motorised wheelchairs for the elderly or physically disabled.
Helps people travel from place to place
Types of PMDs
wheelchair, scooter, power scooter, power assisted unicycle, hoverboard, etc
PMD were often used by disabled people as a mode of transportation but later spread to able people as a new form of transportation
Positive impacts of PMDs
They are a greener form of travel as PMDs usually powered solely on electrical power supplied by its battery, it effectively eliminates the emission of harmful exhaust gases that would be produced from driving a car or using public transport
Less greenhouse gases are produced and there is less contribution to air pollution which makes PMDs a greener mode of transportation
Saves transportation costs
Public transport fares are rising and buying a car is also expensive but using PMDs eliminate the constant need to pay for bus or train fares which reduces cost spent on transportation
Negative impacts of PMDs
Pedestrians are vulnerable especially elderly, young children and pregnant women as they might be involved in PMDs accidents that can affect their health
Damage and risk to people living in flats and housing estates. Most owners choose to leave their devices charging throughout the entire night. This leads to excessive current that can cause fires in the home. This will harm the residents in the house as well as neighbours. The house will also be damaged
Should they be banned?

There are a large number of food delivery rides that depend on their PMDs to deliver food as a source of income. The ban will effectively rid them of their means of transport and income (click for link)

People who are disabled might lose their mode of accessible transport. Public transport is inaccessible and inconvenient for them. It is made even worse if they depend on PMDs to work and the ban might affect their source of income
