Small Intestine- breaks down food using enzymes, such as, maltase, peptidases, pancreatic amylase, trypsin, nuclease, nucleosidases, and lipase that are released by the pancreas and bile from the liver. Made up of three segments - the duodenum-responsible for the continuous breaking-down process, jejunum, and ileum -both mainly responsible for absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream
Pancreas-as mentioned in the small intestine, the pancreas secretes digestive enzymes into the duodenum, which break down protein, fats, and carbohydrates. The pancreas also secretes makes insulin, which metabolizes sugar and sends it directly into the bloodstream.
Liver-processes the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine.Bile aids in digesting fat. Alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) makes all the various chemicals the body needs to function. As well as detoxifying potentially harmful chemicals and breaking down and secreting many drugs.
Gallbladder- stores and concentrates bile, which aids in digestion, then releases it into the duodenum to help absorb and digest fats
