ligaments of knee joint
Ligaments
-
-
- Tibial collateral
or medial ligament
-
-
- Fibular collateral or
lateral ligament
-
inferiorly
- it is embraced by the tendon of
the biceps femoris
- & is attached to the head of fibula
in front of its apex
- is separated frm the lat.meniscus
by the tendon of popliteus
- is free frm the capsule
- the inferior lateral genicular
vessels & nerve separate it frm the capsule
- Oblique popliteal ligament
- is an expansion frm the
tendon of semimembranosus
- runs upwards & laterally
blends with the posterior surface
of the capsule
- attached to the ontercondylar line &
lat condyle of femur
- closely related to the popliteal artery
-pierced by middle genicular
vessels & nerve
-& terminal part of post division of
obturator nerve
- Arcuate popliteal ligament
- is a posterior expansion frm
the short lateral ligament
- extends backwards frm the
head of fibula
arches over the tendon of politeus
& att to post border of
intercondylar area of tibia
cruciate ligaments
- are v thick & strong fibrous bands
- act as direct bonds of union between
tibia & femur
- maintain anteroposterior stability
of knee joint
- named according to the attachment
on tibia
- Anterior cruciate ligament
- begins frm ant part of
intercondylar area of tibia
- runs upwards
- backwards
- & laterally
- & is att to the post part of
medial surface of lateral condyle
of femur
- is taught during extension of knee
- Posterior cruciate ligament
- begins frm post part of
intercondylar area of tibia
- runs upwards
- forwards
- & medially
- & is att to the ant part of
lateral surface of medial condyle
of femur
- is taught during flexion of knee
-
11.Transverse ligament
- connects the anterior ends
of the medial & lateral menisci
