What makes a really good eye catching magazine cover.
TECHNICAL
Size
The normal size of a magazine is 8.5 inches x 11 inches.
The text shouldn't be to small that no can read it or to big that it doesn't show any of the main image.
The more important things are larger.
Text
The magazine cover should include the magazine name, tagline and selected article headings.
Main Image
There should ideally be only one image, as the vocal point to attract the end-user attention.
The image should be clear/high quality.
DESIGN ELEMENTS
Main Image
The main image should be the dominating element of the front cover.
It should match the theme/message of the magazine.
Font & Color
The font and color should match the theme of the magazine.
The font should be bold and a good color to match against the main image, so the end-user can read it with out trying to hard, it should be quick and easy to see the text.
Layout
The title of the magazine is mostly in the top half of the magazine cover.
Most of the page should be the main image.
The text should be out of the way of main point of the image.
The title's can be in its own frame/box.
DESIGN THAT CACHED MY EYES
A single pop of color shouts the loudest, like if most of the magazine cover is black & white and you have the main/key things in color it will get people attention.
