IB Tips from Senior Student
Group 1: Language A
Thai Language and Literature HL
Read your novels as soon as you receive it.
คำพิพากษา is more fun
คนนอก is weird but you can read on English analysis sites since the novel is translated
As for IOC books, read them in between term breaks or half-term breaks, so it does not effect your workflow of other subjects.
English Language and Literature SL
Read all your novels as soon as you receive it.
If you think you are a slow reader. Use YouTube audiobooks (free) and speed the video up by 1.5 or 2 to you liking. (While reading it ofc.)
English books are easiler to get through since there are more analysis sites in the internet
A good approach to both types of literary analysis is the following:
Context (บริบท)
Techniques (กลวิธี)
Language (ภาษา)
Effect on the reader (ผลกระทบต่อผู้อ่าน)
Writer's perspective (ผู้แต่ง/ผู้เขียน)
Group 3: Humanities
Business Management HL
Internal Assessments (IA)
Have a general sense of what local business you will be working with.
Choose a topic that you want to specialize in.
Carefully plan and execute as soon as possible to not be a burden to the business you are working with.
Read internet articles and guides.
If you are a IGCSE Business Studies student. IB Business is no different. In HL, there are only a few new things to remember and learn. Such as the business management tools which you will be using in your IAs.
If you are new to business. Start on remembering important key terms and try to learn ahead. Most of you classmate are probably ahead of you due to their IGCSE knowledge. Most likely, the teacher will not stop and wait for you, so try your best to catchup!
Group 4: Sciences
Physics HL
Keep a mindset that IGCSE Physics is just a guide or a demo to physics. IB Physics is the real thing, real physics that is used in the world.
Chemistry SL
I couldn't say much for this one since I started doing chemistry in IB. It was alright for SL, the concepts are all linked in the syllabus so when you learn more, you understand chemistry as a whole.
Group 5: Mathematics
Mathematics SL (Analysis)
Its just math. Get a good understanding of every topic and improvise in class and exams. You will get better as time goes on.
I recommend the YouTube channel called "Revision Village" IB Math Revision
IB Core Subjects
TOK
Don't mind this one, just get the concepts and improvise
Getting 2 extra points is easy compared to 3
You just need a pass in TOK (C grade) and at least a B in EE and you will receive 2 extra points
EE
Focus your attention to the Extended Essay since it really helps develop you as a person and learner as a whole. There are more opportunities to gain points here. Getting a B isn't that hard.
Pick a topic that you are really into and you will enjoy the whole process just like I did :)
CAS
Pick a good long experience, it does not have to be a lot, but a long duration is preferred.
Creativity ideas:
Learn an instrument
Learn a new song genre
Learn a new language
Learn to acquire a new skill.
Action:
Sports
Physical Activity
Gym
Note: The writer does 2 Language As
I am a part of the Class of 2020, so it is the old syllabus.
