Leadership is a process of social influence which maximises the efforts of others towards the achievement of a common goal
Qualities of a leader
Courage: To be able to speak up and confront risks, situations, individuals and the unknown
Honesty and Integrity: To have high ethics, to be fair and trustworthy, honesty, responsibility for their own actions and for the team
Confidence: A leader must show confidence and assertiveness to gain respect and trust of the team. No one would be willing to follow a leader who is unsure of their own decisions unless they're an idiot.
Inspiration: A leader should think positive and this positive approach should be visible through their actions. They stay calm under pressure and keep the motivation level up.
As John Quincy Adams puts it, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
Commitment and passion: Being a passionate leader will inspire others around to work hard and follow their leader. Doing so would also establish stronger bonds and respect towards their leader. It will also help the team to perform better.
Decision making capabilities: A leader should have the ability to take the right decision at the right time. Decisions taken by leaders have a profound impact on masses.
Resilience: Leaders should be resilient and have a positive attitude. Irrespective of how difficult the circumstances might be, they must persevere and continue to lead their team
Emotional intelligence: With emotional intelligence, leaders can control their emotions, which prevents negative emotions from influencing their decision-making skills. They are less likely to make hasty decisions. Emotionally intelligent leaders are great at understanding the emotions and care about the feelings of others. Leaders who have this leadership quality not only handle conflict in a better way but also play an important role in conflict resolution.
They also help to judge the mental state of their team and are able to gauge their potential to guide, coach or mentor them for their future development.

People look to leaders to guide them in their actions. Good leaders are role models for the people they lead, motivating them, supporting them and facilitating communications among them.
Student leaders have a part in developing and contributing to the school curriculum as well as the well-being of the student population
