Abolitionist is someone who apposes something very strongly and in this case it was slavery
Humanitarian is someone who help others
Harriet Tubman didn't like slavery and she wanted it to end
Harriet Tubman was born in the state of Maryland
Harriet Tubman was born into slavery
When Harriet was a slave
Harriet was not taught to read and write
When she was still very young, she began to work
She was not treated well
By the time she was twelve, she was working in the field
Harriet escaped
In 1849, in the middle of the night, Harriet ran away from her owner
She headed north to the states that didn't have as much slavery
Once she was free, Harriet started to work with the Underground Railroad
The Underground Railroad was a big group of people who help slaves escape to freedom
Harriet helped other slaves escaped
Harriet returned to the south states to help other escape slavery
Although there were many people trying to catch her and the people she led north, Harriet never lost a single slave
