Protagonist
We can see that Charlie is the protagonist because the story is literally based on his growth. As a person and as an experiment. Throughout the novel, we get to see him change and interact with others. Each person whether the experience was good or bad gives us an insight into Charlie's character. We also get to see his innerworkings of his mind and thoughtprocess through dreams and dialougue.
Textual evidence:"had a nightmare last night, and this morning, after I woke up, I free-associated the way Dr. Strauss told me to do when I remember my dreams. Think about the dream and just let my mind wander until other thoughts come up in my mind. I keep on doing that until my mind goes blank. Dr. Strauss says that it means I've reached a point where my subconscious is trying to block my conscious from remembering. It's a wall between the present and the past. Sometimes the wall stays up and sometimes it breaks down and I can remember what's behind it."(Keyes 43)
