Atmospheric Pollution
Thermal Inversion
-
-
This happens when a layer of warm air settles over a layer of cool air that lies near the ground. The warm air holds down the cool air and doesn't allow it to scatter, therefore trapping pollution near the ground.
Photochemical Smog
-
-
Photochemical smog is a type of smog produced when ultraviolet light reacts with nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere. It is seen as a brown haze and can be seen during the morning and afternoon.
Acid Rain
Acid rain is a broad term that is used to describe several ways that acids fall out of the atmosphere. Acid deposition is a more precise term as there can be 2 different types of deposition (wet and dry).
