When injured do TO TAPS first
TALK
Ask the player what happened?
where does it hurt?
On a scale from 1-10 what kind of pain is it?
OBSERVE
Look at the affected side for swelling or redness
is the injured side different to the other?
TOUCH
touch will indicate warmth for inflammation- touch also assesses pain
ACTIVE MOVEMENT
Ask the player to move the injured part without any help
PASSIVE MOVEMENT
Try move it with full motion
SKILL TEST
Produce pain? if no can the player stand and demonstrate some of the skill/ demonstrate what happened
Treat injuries with RICER
COMPRESSION
Compression reduces bleeding and swelling
ELEVATE
place the injured area above the heart
ICE
Apply a cold pack to the injury
20minutes every 2 hr for 72 hr
REFERRAL
see a qualified professional
REST
Limit the movement.
don't put any weight on the injured part of the body
rest reduces further damage
AVOID these when injured(NO HARM)
NO RUNNING
Will cause further damage
can mask the pain
NO MASSAGE
causes increase in bleeding and swelling for 72 hr
NO ALCHOL
INCREASES bleeding and swelling to injured areas
NO HEAT
Avoid heat such as heat packs/showers/baths for 72 hours
