2020 Year 10 Geogrphy
-
Week 1
-
7 concepts
-
Place
Part of the earths surface given meaning by people. Natural is unchanged by man and man made is built by humans
-
-
Change
The earth is always moving and change can occur very slowly of very rapidly. Helps us to understand what is happening on earth.
Eg- The great barrier sea has been gradually getting smaller over time due to increasing pollution and water temperature
Environment
-
E.g Your school is an environment because it is made up of living an non-living components. The buildings and the students

Week 4
Environmental changes
Changes made that degrade the soil are damming rivers, digging for valuable resources
-
Degradation of land
Some causes of land degradation are over farming, deforestation,
-
Deforestation also contributes to this because humans remove trees and this leads to erosion. Erosion occurs because the tress roots are what hold the soil in place
Desertification happens when there is loss in vegetation or the invasion of other plants. With loss of soil and the degradation of the ecosystem this leads to desertification.
Degradation of water
Factors that degrade water are damming rivers, pollution both physical and chemical
By damming rivers it prevents plants down stream to get fresh water. And it also floods other areas.
Physical pollutants can be particles that have been washed into waterways. This can be Plastic, cigarettes and any much more
Chemical pollutants include pesticides, fertiliser and industrial waste that has reached the waterways
-
Week 3
Contour maps
Topographic maps show a small region in great detail. They also show height of land above sea level through the use of contour lines
-
-
Week 6
Loss of biodiversity
-
-
Many factors affect the loss of biodiversity. These factors can be deforestation, pollution of land air and water, spread of avavsive species and climate change brought on by humans.
ecosystem services decline because the animals that maintain them decline. These include food, fibres and freshwater supplies.
