Case Studies and the Flipped Classroom
The lure of
the Flipped
Classroom
-
additional advantages
- there is more time to spend with students on authentic research
- students get more time working with scientific equipment
- students who miss class for debate/sports/etc
- the method "promotes thinking inside and outside of classroom"

my comment:
I've noted the Flipped Classroom several years ago.
It is really attractive. It is learner-centered,and teamwork-based,learning by doing. It has a lot of advantages as mentioned
Pitfalls of the flipped
approach
- it is a new method to students, they may not feel comfortable to do so, or may come to school without any preparation
- it is also a chanllenge to teachers to create videos, reading materials for students to prework.
my comment:
I couldn't agree more about these two points.
One side, the students may have no idea about doing preworks at home. And it is difficult to be accepted by their parents in learning this way.
On the other hand, it is also new to our teachers. We should learn more about creating more effective and useful materials and videos before lessons for students.
Instructional video
- online video is better than reading materials.
2.students like videos better. it is useful, easy to follow and effective
my comment.
That is true, we tried to use the Flipped Classroom before. We asked students to pre-study the book, read the new words, text. But it is difficult for them to learn new words without any instructions from a teacher.
And later, we developed an APP and uploaded learning videos, the students are easier to follow.
The future of
the Flipped Classroom

- The effort needs some direction, some standardization, and the sharing of cases and videos
my comment:
I am very positive about the Flipped Classroom.
According to Bloom's Taxonomy, the teaching aim is turning into creating from remember. We teach how to use new words in class rather than remembering.
