The girl represents the inner thoughts, feelings of the man which is covered by a manly laughter. this can be because of the fear of loosing masculinity.
-
"Women eh!"
'eh!' gives negative feeling and sounds offensive against women in this context. it gives a sort of disrespect to women or shows them inferior.
THINGS FALL APART
TFA: Okonkwo kills Ikmefuna even though he didn't wanted to. but because of the fear of loosing masculinity he killed Ikemefuna and refused to discuss the pain with anyone.
Ibo culture is gendered where women are not treated equally as men. Okonkwo beat his wives and "It was clear from the way the crowd stood or sat that the ceremony was for men. There were many women; but they looked on from the fringe like outsiders.”
