Identifying a Struggling Student
Struggles to complete learning tasks
Struggles to follow directions
Constantly looks to peers for help
Antisocial behavior
Acting out
Easily upset
Easily embarrassed
Next, we need to look for ways to intervene.
Contact parents. Look for solutions at home that can help out.
Give parents extra materials that they can use at home to work with their child.
Notify administration that you may need extra help.
Differentiated Instruction
Behavior Coaching
Small groups with others of the same level.
Assistive technologies
Create official IEP
Work with a team from the school
Present - How is the child doing now?
Future - Where do we want them to grow?
Where the student receive instruction?
Then we should refer the student to special education
Other teachers come to observe the student.
Child gets an official diagnosis from a doctor or school counselor.
Make sure the parents are on board.

First, we need to look for signs and identify these students.

Finally, evaluate and reevaluate
Don't give up on the student
Keep meeting with the IEP team to assess progress and make plans going forward.
