- - - - The U.N. was created in 1945 after the horrible events that happened in World War II. International leaders got together to propose the creation of a new global organization, which would maintain peace and avoid wars. According to researches, it was said that the main goal of the organization was to "save succeeding generations from the scourge of war,…to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights,…to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom.”
    - - The Nuremberg Trials were a series of international prosecutions that decided the fate of nazi war criminals. The allied countries decided to meet in Nuremberg, Germany because it was one of the few cities in Germany that had not been destroyed by the war. Furthermore, this trial was an important step towards rebuilding an international system of justice; according to the video, "they established important legal precedents for future international trials."
    - - The bombing of both cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima was one of the greatest tragedies during World War II. After Germany and all of the other countries surrendered, Japan was still the only one standing. To make the country surrender, the US decided for the first time, to use an atomic bomb to destroy one of the cities of the country. On August 6, 1945, they dropped the bomb over the city of Hiroshima, killing between 90,000 and 166,000 people. With no response from the country, three days later, the US bombed the city of Nagasaki, killing between 40,000 and 75,000 people.
