Nighttime thoughts
-
-
Thoreau believes that when finding someone's way out of the forest they have to follow their feet and not navigate with their eyes.
Lost in the woods
-
Thoreau thinks of getting lost in the woods as similar to when a person cannot navigate throughout a snowy road because it looks unfamiliar.
-
Taxes
Thoreau does not believe in paying taxes because it owns people as if they are cattle. This follows the tenet of non-conformity because Thoreau does not wish to conform to society and government.
-
After getting arrested for one night after tax evasion Thoreau finds his shoe and returns to the woods.
Theft
Thoreau does not lock his windows or doors even when we went traveling for two weeks in Maine because he believed that his house was respected.
Thoreau is okay with people going to his cabin and reading his books and warming themselves. He believes that theft would not be a thing if everyone lived simply without having more than they need.
