Moral standards help us to identify what is wrong and what is right. It helps us to build a normal, functional human being without any ill thoughts (by ill thoughts I meant ideas such as cannibalism without a proper reason)
Moral standards are set by the community or nation to prevent any unnecessary casualties.

Prevents us from exploring human possibilities and obtaining knowledge that most of the people would consider unethical.
