positive impacts
Industrialization had many positive effects on society in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. The creation of power machines and factories provided many new job opportunities.
Thomas Newcomen designed the prototype for the first modern steam engine. Called the “atmospheric steam engine,” Newcomen's invention was originally applied to power the machines used to pump water out of mine shafts. This made a positive impact because it created many new job opportunities.

negative impacts
Although there are several positives to the Industrial Revolution there were also many negative impacts, including poor working conditions, poor living conditions, low pay, child labor, and pollution.
James Watt was a Scottish inventor that made the Watt steam engine. This was a very successful invention in the UK but had a negative impact simply because it polluted the environment. Since the engine was burning coal, it was releasing fossil fuels which are bad for the environment. Although this may have been an important invention in the industrial revolution, it was polluting the environment which was a negative impact in the industrial revolution.
