IMPACT OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) BIOMETRICS
artificial intelligence:
s
imilar to human intelligence and allows computers to act as a human.
Biometrics: identifies a person with some part of their body. Can be used as security
(passwords, locks). It is
not 100% accurate.
Fingerprints
digital impressions.
Problem
: sometimes the scanned fingerprints are wrongly not accepted in the database.
Solution
:
dynamic profiling
, it means that the system use AI in people fingerprints in every scan so the person doesn't have to put the finger in the exactly right place of the scan because the system learns from the different alignments and accept the fingerprints correctly.
Facial-recognition
analyze faces shapes.
Problem
: many times the system can't recognize the faces due to
soft biometric changes
, for example grown facial hair and aged.
Solution
: use AI to know from scanning many faces and can take out
soft biometric changes
so the system identify the face and cross-reference these attributes with pictures stored in the database.
Eye recognition
analyze iris.
Voice recognition
analyze pitch, tone and frequency .
VISION ENHANCEMENT
Low vision enhancement (LVE)
Uses video technology in a headset attach to a computer. The
system let images being projected in the headsets in front of the eye
. This bring the things closer so the user can analyze them better.
Night vision enhancement (NVE)
Enlarge infrared and visible light to allow an image to be seen in the darkness
. An image intensifier tube turns the
light into electrons
that go into a tube where they are
enlarged to the original number of electrons.
At the end of the tube there is a
screen which has a lot of phosphor tubes
that shine
when the electrons crush between each other making a more visible image.
ROBOTICS
controlled by a human or a computer chip. Used to do assignments.
No manufacturing areas.
Drones.
Military.
Use them in reconnaissance missions.
Civilians.
Use them to see the landscape in 3-D to use with GPS, to investigate weather catastrophes or to help fire fighting in natural disasters.
Robotic surgery.
Surgical procedures.
Provide surgeons to do procedures more exactly.Robotics are equipped with a camera and many interacted mechanical arms to do this process.
Carrier robots.
Carry heavy or dangerous loads.
Domestic robots.
Do domestic assignments
Exploration robots.
Explore and take photos of remote places.
Manufacturing industry.
Do automatic assignments.
QUANTUM CRYPTOGRAPHY
Encryption
: technique that makes text indecipherable to users that are not allow.
On the basis of light and its physical quantum properties produce a virtually message that can´t be decipher. Data transmitted by fiber-optic cables is secure because of this tecnology. Light moves in many directions creating many random bits across the optical network.
It is based on physics
it is more secure than older methods that are based on mathematics because they are
impossible to hack.
COMPUTER-ASSISTED TRANSLATION (CAT)
Language translator
that use a special software to translate. It is
not 100% accurate
, they need a person to check it.
CAT Tools
Translation memories
: Automatically translate words that people used before.
Terminology databases
: linguistic database that learns when translation is being used.
3-D AND HOLOGRAPHIC IMAGING
Holographic: allows 3-D imagines to be produced
.
Components
: Laser light, interference of light, light diffraction and intensity recording.
When an holographic image is rotated it moves as the original object, appearing in 3-D. To produce an hologram first a laser beam has to be divided.
The object beam
(half of the light) is reflected from the object to a photographic plate. The other half of the light called
reference beam
is reflected from the mirror into the same photographic plate. The i
mage is created when the two lights crush in the photographic plate.
Apps

Medical imaging.
Cinema and gaming effects.

Holographic televisions.
Holograpich computer memories.
Visual computers.
VISUAL REALITY
not real place made by software.
User feels
that they are
living a reality
by using this technology because they are using eye gloves, special gloves, headphones and powerful computer that make people feel as if they were there.
Used by
Military.
