Neil Harbisson "The color cyborg"
This "new part of him" has changed his way of living in many ways (Violeta Quintana)
He builds his meals so the colors match his favourite song
He used to dress to look good, but now he dresses to sound good.
When he goes to an art gallery or a supermarket he can listen the paintings and food
He sees beauty differently because even though someone looks good, he can hear them badly.
We don't agree with Neil. We think having what he has wouldn't be good and these changes wouldn't improve our everyday lives. For example, we can't dress however we want because it would sound bad, and we would have to be all day listening to a bad melody, the same case with our meals, with the people we see and when we go to any place with many colors. In our opinion it is kind of useless to change all of these things if you can just live your normal life and don't have to worry about if you sound good or bad.
How does it work? (Juana Arzubi)
He uses an antenna which detects the color with a frequency, that frequency goes to a chip at the back of his head and then he hears the color in front of him through the bow conduction.
Who is Neil Harbisson? (Malena Saravi)
Neil Harbisson (born 27 July 1984) is a cyborg artist and activist for transpecies rights based in New York City. He is best known for being the first person in the world with an antenna implanted in his skull and for being legally recognized as a cyborg by a government.
He has acromatopsia, which means full color blindness
He is very inspiring and smart. We think he is very determined because when he missed out on being able to see sound he decided to make a change and invent something that would give him the possibility to do so. This invention is a very big accomplishment and we admire his effort.
Secondary effects (Violeta Quintana)
he started dreaming in colors
This made him realise the software and his brain had united and he started feeling like a cyborg
One of the secondary effects was that he started mixing real sounds with colors.
We think these secondary effects are not as good as he sees them. In our opinion being a cyborg is definitely not enjoyable and mixing sounds with colors would be very confusing and annoying.
He thinks more people should be like him because he can listen if it will be a good or a bad day. (Juana Arzubi)
There should be less apps for phones and people should have more senses to have more knowledge.
This way the world would be much more interesting
He created a foundation whose objective is to encourage people to become cyborgs like him.
He can (MalenaSaravi)
also interpret people and art as sounds
perceive sounds as colors
Listen to over 360 colors
Each one of them is a different tone
Wanted to expand the color senses and can listen now to infrared and ultraviolet which are colors the human cannot perceive
We believe that this antenna gives you a few abilities that are amazing and cannot be accomplished by a regular human, but we prefer seeing color than hearing color. It would be a nice experience but not one we would keep for the rest of our lives. The only thing we actually believe is useful being able to perceive the colors infrared and ultraviolet. The rest is just a good experience and not something that would improve human kind. Lastly, it must be annoying listening to those tones all day.
At the beginning he wasn't allowed to have a passport photo because of the antenna
We believe that having this antenna would be a nice experience but t we would not like to live our whole lives listening to different noises. We prefer to see in black and white that not hearing the colors all the time. A good example is if you go to a museum there would be a song, of all the colors that would be heard.
