THE PRESENCE OF MARX IN TODAY'S SOCIETIESMarx's ideas came to impact society most directly after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.
Marx's books of 50/60 years before had impacted some people, sowing the seeds (I love this expression) for communist revolutions around the world. The first society to be run on Marxist principles was the Soviet Union. Due to the influence of the USSR on many countries, Marxist ideas came to impact many other societies: the countries of Eastern Europe became communist; and so did China, North Korea, and eventually Vietnam, for instance. These societies were, therefore, directly impacted by Marx's ideas.Marx's thoughts are present in today's societies in many ways: 1- Workers Unions fit into many of the concepts developed by Karl Marx, such as class struggle and class consciousness.
2- Communist governments: the ruling political party in China, the CPC, is communist and prevenient from early USSR times. Similarly, Cuba is a socialist regime, another concept brought by Marx.
