This war victory for Prussia/NGC instilled a great amount of confidence and security in the German states and caused all of them, excluding Austria, to unite and become the German Reich (Empire). This war caused the end of the supremacy of France in Europe, and caused the Papal States to fall and Italy to become unified. (due to the fall and defeat of Napoleon III).

Prussia (North German Confederation) vs, France. Otto von Bismarck attacked France in the Alsace-Lorraine region. France's want for revenge, and Prussia's militarism and want for victory caused the war to take full effect.

Outcome and Effect

Ended with the Treaty of Vienna - Austria and Prussia now control Schleswig-Holstein. Prussia took control of Lauenburg, and Schleswig. The Northern border of the German Empire would be set.

Cause

Called the German-Danish wars as well, it consisted of Germany and Austria fighting against Denmark. Otto von Bismarck got the aid of one of its enemies (Austria) to help him defeat Denmark, only to turn on them and fight against them in the Austro-Prussian Wars

The main outcome and shift in this war was the giant shift of German power from Austria towards Prussia and other German states. This granted Otto von Bismarck more power to unite more German states. Prussia became the leading German power. This war united the North German Confederation, and allowed Bismarck to look towards attacking France

Strategically begun by Otto von Bismarck to bring Germany to a unified state. This war was between France and Prussia. Otto turned against Austria after they aided him in his defeat of Denmark in the second Schleswig War.
