Figurative Language
¨Maya Angelou´s picture watches me while I sweep and mop the floor, while I scrub the shelves, while I chase spiders out of the corners.¨ (pg 50)
personification
What the author meant by this is that while she was mopping and cleaning she felt that the picture was looking at her.
¨Every time I try to talk to my parents or a teacher, I sputter or freeze. What is wrong with me? It´s like I have some kind of spastic laryngitis¨ (pg.51)
Simile
What the author meant by this was that Melinda couldn't speak because she was afraid and compared it to a sickness or a illness that the people cant speak.

This means that she wanted to put the bones in a creative way like firewood which is used to make fires when you go camping.

Heather
She is Melinda´s friend
They met on the bus she is a very responsible and over achieving girl. She want to join one club for every day of the week, and wants Melinda to join her. She has a really nice room and it is very organized. She is happy, driven, and aerobically fit and she is from Ohio. Her mom is very nice and she has a dog.
Heather is a very caring friend in some things she gives Melinda a Christmas gift before it is even Christmas. But when Andy Evans came and Melinda got really sick and went to throw up she did not show up to help her. That shows a lot about her personality.
Dad
He is Melinda´s Father
He cooks the food for Thanksgiving but he is not that good. He is a very competitive person and wants to prove that he can do a better job at cooking compared to the mother. He also dose not want help to do his things.

This shows something important of the book. In this part of the story you can see the relationship of the Melinda´s family. They wanted to have a nice Thanksgiving dinner but everything went wrong. Then the dad wanted to prove that he could cook better then the mom he destroyed the dinner and they had to order pizza. This also shows that they don´t care to not have the traditional Thanksgiving.

This shows something of the character how she likes being alone and in close spaces. This also explains how her parents command her to do things and she does not do them instead of pulling up her grades she likes being in a closet.
Conflict
¨Mom sees the wrist at breakfast.
I don´t have time, for this Melinda.¨ (pg. 88)
This reveals more of the conflict later. This shows how she does not have the support of the mother. She feels so sad and lonely that felt the need to cut herself. This could cause Melinda to do something worse later.
¨ If I volunteer to teach the Basketball Pole how to swish a foul shot, I will get an automatic A in gym. I shrug my shoulders and they grin. I couldn't say no. I couldn't say anything. I just wont show up.¨ (pg 77)
This conflict affects not only Melinda but other people. Ms. Connors saw that Melinda had a potential with her amazing ar in basketball. She talked with the other coach and asked Melinda if she taught the Basketball Pole to shoot foul shots then she will get an A in PE. She did not answer, but Melinda is not going to go. That means that she will not get the A and the players wont learn how to shot. This will create a conflict with the coaches and Melinda.
¨Ms. Keen armed us with knives and told us not to gag.¨ ¨A scream starts in my gut- I can feel the cut, smell the dirt, leaves in y hair. I don´t remember passing out. ¨ (pg 81)
This reveals the conflict that Melinda had with the class. In her class they needed to cut a frog Ms. Keen told them they couldn't gag or get disgusted. But Melinda did no like it and he even fainted. She hit her head and did not feel well. This shows how the teacher and Melinda have a conflict because what Ms. Keen put them to do some kids cant do it.
