Ms. Kershaw's Classroom Makerspace
Art supplies and trinkets, part of our "junk space" can be used for providing students with unlimited opportunities to express their learning.
Students will create a model of either a muscular, skeletal, or epithelial system; there will be a focus on how the system is essential for the body to remain healthy, and what function the system provides: movement, support, or protection.
Digital storytelling center aids student comprehension, and is a useful tool for both student learning and assessment of student understanding.
Collaboration and experiential learning are at the heart of our classroom!
Incorporating ideas from the makerspace movement is an essential component in creating my ideal classroom environment. My teaching philosophy is grounded in student sense-making, collaboration, and experiential learning. This space represents my vision for regularly involving students in creative and engaging tasks that will further develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Students will create something in our makerspace to express their understanding of NCSCOS 3.1.L - Understand human body systems and how they are
essential for life: protection, movement and support.
Our classroom environment, and key elements from the maker movement, promote the development of important 21st century skills.
Opportunities to use technology plus inquiry-based learning, encourage development of digital literacy student empowerment.
Students can use VR, and other technology for exploration of the human body systems.
Ideas incorporated from the maker space will include
no tech, low tech, and high tech
tools and materials. Recycled and reusable objects teach students to be conscious of our impact on the environment.
