War and Conflict :explode:
Period 3
Causes: Why do people fight wars?
To be a part of something bigger than themselves
Tension between two groups of people, once they feel insulted they will want to defend their honor and pride
The tendency for humans to feel agression when they strongly believe in something that others disagree with.
In response to lack of resources or fear
To support a specific belief or ideology, like religion
to protect/ defend their people
Link Title
To settle large-scale conflict within a country
Alliances with other countries
Is war necessary?
No. Why?
War will just lead to more hatred in the future and tensions that will take long periods of peace to mend
If compromises or diplomacy could prevent a conflict altogether to resolve a tension and somehow benefit both groups, then war would not be necessary.
Rather than using war, there are peaceful ways to solve conflicts. Creating peaceful ways to end conflict such as court or peace treaties would be more a more innovative way of fixing war.
Maybe. Why?
No, but due to our biological makeup it ican be a way humans solve some problems. Prominently in the past, most people saw a problem and automatically tried to fix it with extremes. With these extremes rulers, tribes and many others settled their anger though killing. Whether it is war or killing a neighbor, becoming overpowered by anger isn't uncommon. Therefore making these people think killing is the only way to solve the problem.
While certain wars are unavoidable and necessary, especially those concerning freedom, wars that are waged to gain power and land are avoidable and cause needless destruction. Such wars are unnecessary.
War has shaped our society; many of the modern things that we enjoy and rely on today have come out of war, from early kingdoms to fertilizer to much of our medical knowledge.
When every other option has failed, it may become necessary.
At times war can cause the betterment or progression of society i.e. WWI
Yes. Why?
Human nature is selfish. Without the threat of war, diplomacy wouldn't be possible, as there would be no real incentive to coming to an agreement, unless it was truly mutually benficial.
Our world’s conflicts have been dealt with by war since the beginning of time. It would be hard for us to change since it’s something we are all so used to.
If war wasn't necessary, why would it occur. I'm sure many countries wouldn't expend their peoples' lives if there was a way around it
sometimes, you aren't the one causing the war, but when the war comes to you, you need to do what is necessary to protect your people and stand up for what you believe is right
Is war justifiable?
No. Why?
In the circumstance that is unnecessary, whether it's over a resource monopoly of conflicting ideologies that merely wish to compete, then it is not justifiable
The simple answer to war not being justifiable is the situation in which a country attacks another simply to have personal gains with no proper reasoning behind the instigation.
Maybe. Why?
In cases that people were being harmed originally and you need to stop it do to moral reasons , then in that circumstance yes it can be.
The justifiability varies on the purpose of the war for each side. If peaceful resolution can be made without serious sacrifices, then going to war instead isn't justified. If peace without the losses of many lives or complete surrender isn't feasible and the conflict appears to only be able to be solved through war, then it is justifiable.
Sometimes the reason is stopping bad things that are happening, like a genocide, but most of the time its over something like land or power.
Sometimes the cause is just, for example freeing slaves, but other times it may just be over land or goods.
Yes. Why?
The situation in which a rebellion could be fighting their own country could be justifiable. What if the government was instilling unfair laws and abusing their position of power?
If you will die if you don't go to war (Ex: not enough resources), it is justifiable.
If someone is trying to take over your land, in a country's perspective, it is justafiable
Yes, because if your country gets invaded than you have to protect it, but war should never be used as to dominate it should be to protect your countries and your allies from a threat.
Effects of War
Who is impacted by war?
leaders of each opposing side
Future generations
Children are also affected, if they lose a family member, or are made into a child soldier.
Mostly the civilians, be it the ones who joined the army or the ones who are living near or on a battlefield
Many people are affected by war, the people fighting, their opponents, their families and their country.
The innocent bystanders
the loved ones of soldiers who have died in combat
Those directly participating in the war, namely soldiers, are often the most affected by wars compared to any others
What solutions can be created by war?
Threats towards a territory & its assets could be entirely destroyed if the threatened group acts tactfully in a conflict
Treaties can be made after a war solving the problem with a compromise.
Effects
loss of human life, loss of historical artifacts, or loss of humanity.
Through war soldiers can be deployed over seas every few months. With these deployments it can mean more battles which can be the cause of higher death rates and more destruction of land where the war is being fought.
One effect of war could be religious dominance over other countries. Like if a country conquered another and made the people worship their god.
Does anyone ever win a war?
Yes. How?
While there are exceptions, wars fought to end oppression or political corruption can have meaningful results. If such a war is won, many people may gain freedom.
Countries can gain territories and trade items.
if you win, you gain the rights to victory and what you believe in seems superior to the losing side
A country can fight for religious
beliefs. For example, to be able to practice a religion or stop someone who is violating a religious belief.
No. How?
in the war, many people and resources will have been lost in the process
Even if your side had "won" it was still at the expense of others' lives and families. You may have destroyed a country's ability to function like it did before.
Fighting never really ends. Even if a group would win a war they may still have to fight in another war against the same people if nothing was actually resolved.
People who live by the war zone
Any being living near a war zone or environment. Pollution, fires, weapons also poses a threat to species close by.
