- When someone who drinks alcohol can no longer control their use of it no matter the negative ramifications for it. This includes the compulsive behaviors which result from alcohol dependence and the desire or physical need to consume alcohol

- Medications: helping those to stop or reduce drinking habits and prevent relapse
- Mutual-Support Groups: speak with a mentor or counselor with a group of people who have the same issues

What Can We Do?

Hugs Not Drugs: Often, society distances themselves from addicts thinking that separation will force them to seek help. Instead, this loneliness reinforces their addiction. So, as a society, we should seek to form connections with addicts, reach out to them, support and care for them, and let them know that they are not alone, as connection is key to helping beat addiction.
