Mechanism of Action
Ionized calcium and gluconate are
Normal constituents of body fluids
Dissociates into ionized calcium in plasma
Calcium increases serum ionized calcium levels
Contraindications
Kidney stones
Sarcoidosis
Hypercalcemia
Kidney disease with reduction in kidney function
Ventricular fibrillation
Side effects
Chalky taste after IV administration
Sense of oppression
Sense of heat waves
Decreased blood pressure
Tingling sensations
Storage conditions
Discard unused portion in the single-dose vial
The diluted solution must be used immediately
Do not freeze
Shelf life 36 months
Store at 20° to 25°C
Indications
Hypocalcemia due to rapid growth or pregnancy
Steatorrhoea
Hypocalcemia related to hypoparathyrodism
Rickets
Hypocalcemic tetany
