CIE3M - Covid-19 Mind Map Assignment
By: Shu Yi
What is it?
Where did it originate from?
The outbreak began in Wuhan, China. It originated from a wet market where animals are illegally sold. Animals include bats, snakes, rabbits and birds.
As the animals and humans are close in contact in the wet markets, the coronavirus is known to be transferred from animals to humans under these unhygienic conditions.
When did it occur?
The disease was identified in late 2019. It was declared a pandemic on March 11. It is now an international public health emergency.
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that can cause illness in animals and humans.
These viruses usually cause upper respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose.
How to prevent getting COVID-19?
Wash you hands regularly with soap. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze. Avoid close contact.
Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands
Isolate yourself if you feel unwell.
Effects of the “restricted movement order” or “movement control order” On people's mental health and well being
In my opinion, the lockdown has left a good impact on my mental health and well being. I could spend more time what I want at home. I can sleep more, eat more, spend more quality time with my family, learn more recipes and I have more time to do my hobbies.
People around the world became worried, had sleepless nights, anxiety attacks.
People who already have an unstable emotions or an disorder had faced more difficulties to overcome occasional mental attacks.
What did the government do to prevent the people getting COVID-19?
On March 18, the government implied a Movement Control Order (MCO) for a period of 14 days. Some people calls it a lockdown, others call it social distancing.
It is to avoid physical interactions with others. The free time can be used on social media, family time, house cleaning, cooking, and anything done in the house.
The government and policymakers are taking action by slashing interest rates to stabilize economies suffering from the impact of quarantined consumers and disrupted supply chains.
People who are already infected by the virus has to be in self isolation for a period of 2 weeks.
How has the coronavirus (Covid-19) affected or is affecting various sectors or industries in the domestic economy here in Malaysia and/or in your home country and the global economy?
Employees now have to work from home or have to take a paid leave during this lockdown period. Due to the healthy environment consumer rights where they have the right to work in a non-threatening environment.
Business sellers had to close their shops as customers finished stocking up for the lockdown period.
This prevents suppliers or owners to earn profit because they have to pay employees salaries and also pay for their monthly rental. With no revenue coming into the business because everyone is stationed in their homes.
During this pandemic period, products such as hand sanitisers, masks, toilet paper, and other hygienic products are going to have an inelastic demand because it is a necessity for people to not be infected by the virus.
The demand on buying necessities such as food and water has increased significantly because customers are stocking up to survive during the lockdown period.
Business such as Netflix, Youtube, and other social media platforms are earning more money because everyone is looking to occupy their time while confined in their home.
How does staying at home / working or learning from home affect people's motivation levels and productivity positively and / or negatively?
Through my friends and my own experience of learning class material from home, I have made a conclusion that our motivation levels decrease.
This is because it may be the sudden change from a stagnant daily routine of going from places to places to a single spot which is in our home.
The productivity levels (of students) has also decreased because we now can not distinguish when is the time to work and when is to rest. Because we are sitting in our chair facing the laptop all the time.
Our home is also a place to sleep or rest. Making the urge to procrastinate instead of doing work.
By looking through social media such as Facebook or Tik Tok, I have seen people (adults) doing exercises in their apartment rooms with a trainer using a speaker to teach them how to exercise. Other things also include cooking at home and posting them on social media.
This is because their motivation levels are low. The people are bored because there is not much things to do when working from home.
While they might have felt that they are not productive because there is not much things to do at home. They are not able to go to karaoke, pubs, concerts, or do anything outside their house.
