CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
• Sudden onset fever
• Tachydysrhythmias
• Nausea
• Vomiting and diarrhoea
• Profuse palm sweating
• Irritability
• Weak muscles
• Weight loss
• Fatigue
• Red swollen watery eyes
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
• Assessment and physical examination
• Medication history
• Blood tests for TSH

TREATMENT
• Thyroidectomy

DEFINITION
• Raised levels of thyroid hormones
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
• Over secretion of hormones
• Leads to hyperthyroidism
• Long term uncontrolled hyperthyroidism
CAUSES
• Graves disease
• Toxic adenoma
• Toxic multinodular goitre
• Exogenous thyroid hormone
• Struma ovarii
• Thyroiditis
• Thyroid supplement
• Molar pregnancy
COLLABORATIVE CARE
• Encourage enough rest to avoid overworking the heart
• Weigh daily to monitor I&O and oedema
• Encourage healthy diet to restore nutrition and energy
NURSING CARE PLAN
• Monitor patient’s vital signs, oxygen saturation and ECG
• Monitor fluid balance intake and output
• Explain to patient to alleviate anxiety and stress
• Observe and note signs of dehydration
• Administer medication as prescribed
