This field is really unexplored and the truth is that there is not a standarized way of measure if someone has an IGD, some studies says that this desease affect the 8% of the population, meanwhile others says that it affects the 38% of the population.
This disorder is so hard to treat because nowadays we are comlpetly surrounded by technology. Most of our daily activities are done via internet, and it is really hard to be completly isolated of this things. Some experts ponit out that the amount of time in the Internet is not the problem, the real problem is the way is being used
According to the Ratio Reinforcement Schedule (VRRS) theory, the activities in internet are so trendable to create addictions is because it affect multiple zones of the reward system of the brain.
Biological preposition might unfluence in the development of an addiction. This condition is going to disable your levels of dopamine and serotonin. This is going to cause that these individuals start search for different activities in order to get pleasure, increasing the probability of develop an addiction. Oftenly the depression, social awkwardness and anxiety are facrtors that influence in the development of IGD since the invidual is going to use games to relieve their pain.

The effects of the IGM might affect your personal life, academic and job performance. People who suffer from this desease trend to isolote themself and to start being distrustable and dishonest since they will try to hide or denay their problem.
Since this field of IGM is unexplored there is not a standrized factors that classified a individual as IGM pacient. Even though, there have being proposed 5 criterias with which you can diagnose some that have this condition.

Needs to use the Internet with increased amounts of time to gain satisfaction
Has made unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back, or stop use of the Internet
Is restless, moody, depressed, or irritable when attempting to control Internet use
Has stayed online longer than originally intended"
At least one of this factor must ne inlcluded in the individual conduct to consider it IGD:
"Has risked the loss of a significant relationship, job, educational, or career opportunity because of the Internet
Has lied to family members, therapists, or others to conceal their involvement with the Internet
Uses the Internet as a way of escaping from problems or to relieve a dysphoric mood (e.g., guilt, anxiety, depression, helplessness)"
