Chapter 8 Communication
Internal Communication e.g email, staff notice board, intercom, meetings, memos, intranet
Upward: employees report up
Downward: information is sent down Horizontal: between people at the same level
External Communication e.g email, video conferencing, telephone letter
Verbal communication
Advantages: fast communication, repeat the message, personal connection powerful impact
Disadvantages: no record, not listening, lack of preparation, message length
Written communication
Advantages: easy to understand, easy to recall, presentation
Disadvantages: cost, cannot be used alone, over-use
Chairperson
Responsible for opening, running and closing a meeting
Role: Notice and agenda, opens the meeting, runs the meeting, calls for votes, closes the meeting
Characteristics: unbiased, knowledgeable, good time management, good communicator
Secretary

Role: Arranges the venue, notice and agenda, minutes, correspondence, assists the chairperson.
Characteristics: organised, discreet, good at summarising
