-
Alloys are harder than normal metals because the elements have different sized particles. However this also means they cannot bend.

Materials and their uses
Polymers
Generally cheap, less dense, and are good thermal and electrical insulators.
However polymer products degrade over time meaning they sometimes don't last as long as other materials
Ceramics
Insulator of electricity and thermal energy, they don't degrade or corrode meaning they can last longer than other materials
Metals
Good conductors of heat and electricity, high melting points, malleable and more brittle than other materials
Some metals can corrode very quickly, however some corrosion resistant metals can last a really long time
Composites
Combinations o components can be altered allowing composites to be designed to have specific properties.
