Classification of Matter
Elements
Compounds
An element is a substance made from only one type of atom.
Elements are pure in nature.
As soon as a different kind of atom joins, it ceases to be an element and becomes a compund.

A compound is a substance made from two or more elements.
Elements in the compound can NOT be separated.
All compounds are molecules but not all molecules are compounds.

For example: Water, 2 hydrogen atoms+1 atom oxygen= H2O
Substances
A substance is simply matter with definite chemical compositions and distinct properties.
A substance can be a element or compund .
A substance can NEVER be a MIXTURE.

Mixtures
A mixture is formed of little bits of one or more substances mixed together.
There are two types of mixtures, Homogeneous Mixture and Heterogeneous mixture.
Homogeneous: Is when a sample of matter has the same composition throughout. For example: Salt and water because sal disolve in water.
Heterogeneous: It is one that does not have uniform properties and compositions.
Separting Mixtures
Mixtures come in many forms and phases. Most of them can separated .
Here are some methods of separating mixturres: Filtration, Evaporation, Simple destillation, Fractional Destillation, Magnetism, Separating funnel and Paper Chromatography
Chemical Formulae
Symbols are written in a definite way to tell us what the elements and compounds are made up of.
It also tell us the various amounts of atoms in any substance.
Compounds are usually a result of a chemical reaction or bond, which means that they are entirely new materials.
Made up of " Electrons, Protons and Neutrons"
Substances cannot be separated into components by physical sparation techniques
