Types of Sampling
Cluster sampling
defined as a sampling method where multiple clusters of people are created from a population where they are indicative of homogeneous characteristics and have an equal chance of being a part of the sample.
-
-
Convenience sampling
is a type of non-probability sampling method where the sample is taken from a group of people easy to contact or to reach.
-
Disadvantages
The sample is not representative of the entire population, so results can't speak for them - inferences are limited.
-
Judgement sampling
is the non-random sampling technique wherein the choice of sample items depends exclusively on the investigator’s knowledge and professional judgment.
-
-
Quota sampling
-
Disadvantages
Not random, so some risk of bias
-
is a non-probability sampling method in which researchers can form a sample involving individuals that represent a population and are chosen according to traits or qualities.
Simply random sampling
-
-
A simple random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each member of the subset has an equal probability of being chosen. A simple random sample is meant to be an unbiased representation of a group.
Systematic sampling
is an extended implementation of probability sampling in which each member of the group is selected at regular periods to form a sample.
