ELECTROMAGNETISM
MAGNETIC FIELD
A region in which magnetic material experiences a force as the result of the presence of a magnet or a current-carrying conductor.
When current passes through a conductor, magnetic field will be generated around the conductor and the conductor become a magnet. This is called ELECTROMAGNETISM.
Magnet produced by electric current: ELECTROMAGNET
- Soft iron: Easily magnetised and demagnetised
Uses of electromagnet:
- Telephone earpiece
- Electric bell
-
TRANSFORMER
- Equipment used to rase or lower the potential
energy diff. of an alternating current supply.
- Transmission and distribution of electrical energy.
-
Ideal transformer
Voltage ratio, V = Turns ratio, N

RADIAL FIELD
- MF with the field lines pointing TOWARDS or AWAY from centre.
GENERATION OF ENERGY
Renewable Resources
- Solar energy
- Hydroelectric
- Wind power
Non-renewable recourses
- Fossil fuels
- Nuclear fuels
CATAPULT FIELD
Interaction between two magnetic fields produces a force.
- Current same direction, attraction occurs.
- Current of different direction, repulsion occurs.
