He has a violent nature against Eveline and his family, he takes Eveline's salary and spends it on alcohol
HER MOTHER
Eveline’s mother made a lot of sacrifices for her husband and family. She died of an unspecified illness and she probably had a bad reputation for her violent husband.

She is described as an anxious and indecisive young woman, scared, timid and terrified by what is happening in her life such as her fathers’ brutality and violent nature towards her, her mothers and brothers death and poverty status of her old father
