LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM AITOR RUIZ
BONES
Our body moves in response to signals from the brain. This contract and relax to allow us to move, hold objects, kick balls. The muscles are supported by skeleton and joints. The whole system is called the locomotor or musculoskeletal.
Our skeleton is made of bones an there are 3 types of bones .
Flat bones protect the internal organs.
Short bones provide support and stability.
Long bones use for movement.
JOINTS the boes are connect to joints by strong elastic tissue called ligaments. The end of the bones at the joints are covert strong , flexible tissue called catilage. There are 3 types of joints.
Flexible joints which are impotant to move.
Fixed joints are connected by fixed joints.
Semi-flexibe joints, only allow a small amount of movement.
MUSCLES
Smooth muscles are found in organs such as the intestines or stomach.
Cardic muscle makes up our heart.
Skeletal muscles are joined to bones by tendons and they work in pairs.
There are 600 muscles approx. in our body, the muscles are controlled by the nervous system, which makes the muscles contract and relax. There are 3 types of muscles.
Skeletal Muscles are voluntary muscles and involuntary.
Involuntary we can not control them.
Voluntary we can move them
