bruises
frightened, anxious, guilty
depressed and sad
lonely and isolated
desire to self harm, run away
no or low self esteem
problems eating or sleeping
emotionally numb
trouble focusing
Response by teacher
If teacher suspects something
Inform the administrator or counselor immediately
If child tells the teacher
Our policy at AES:
Inform the administrator or counselor immediately
Do not ask for details.
Do not ask the child retell the story multiple times
Do not promise the child you will not inform anyone else.
Examples of situations:
hitting, smacking, slapping
punching, kicking
pinching, scratching, biting
shaking or suffocation
scalding or burning
hair pullling
spitting or throwing things
being forced to swallow something including medicine
