Second Marking Period
Quotes
PG 64: " A broken dream. perhaps? Plastic honeymoon, a deserted island? Oh, if you put it in a slice of pumpkin pie, it could be a deserted island!"
PG 72: "I almost tell them right then and there. Tears flood my eyes": What this quote shows us is that something happened but its to strong for her to tell making it even harder to tell her parents. This may have affected her creating more conflict
PG 73: " We don't leave until way dark because she has so much work to do. Sales have sucked-she didn't get anywhere near the goal she set": What this quote shows is how this is creating a division between Melinda and her mom because of the hard time Melinda's mom is having at the clothing shop
PG 88: "I don't have time for this,Melinda": What this quote means is that her mom is frustrated and doesn't have time to deal with more things or problems. This happened when Melinda did something to her wrist making it seem like she was trying to commit suicide.
Characters
Heather: is the friend of Melinda who takes a big part in the second marking period. We get to know that heather get a modeling job. She is also a good friend and a close one to Melinda
David Petrakis: is the lab partner of Melinda and a friend. We don't get a description of his physical appearance but we know he is intelligent and carefull with things.

Melinda : Is the main character in the story and still don't know anything about her. We get to know more about how she feels, her family and her life .I see that more of the story is developing in the second marking period. I see that a the story went a little dark when she did that things to her rist
Figurative Language
Hyperbole PG 65: Ms.Keen has been teaching since the Middle Ages: What she means is that her teacher knows a lot and it seems like she has been teaching from the middle ages because of all her teacher knows
Simile PG 58: The turkey floats in the sink a ten pound turkey iceberg. A turkey berg. I feel like very much like the titanic. What Melinda meant is that she feels like the titanic because the turkey was frozen or looked frozen and it was all messed up
Metaphor PG 66: Ninth grade is a minor inconvenience to him . A zit-cream commercial before the Feature Film of Life. What the author or Melinda meant here is that he is takes ninth grade as a practice before the big and important things she is basically comparing life to a tv program and that ninth is like a commercial
Personification PG 66: The sun warmed my hair, and the wind pushed my mother into my father;s arms. What this means is that the wind pushed or the action of pushing her mom to her father's arms and the sun was warming her.
Conflict
PG 63: "This has meaning. Pain": What Melinda means with this is that she is going threw a lot of pain during this story. A lot of conflict between her and her parents or her and Rachel also with the terrible memory of "IT" which was the reason of her conflict with Rachel.
PG 91:" He twirls my ponytail in his fingers. Emily's eyes narrow. I mumble something idiotic and run for the bathroom. I heave lunch into the toilet, they wash my face with the ice water that comes out of the hot faucet. Heather does not come looking for me": This quote brings us conflict again on the dark memory of it but this time giving us much more information. What makes us suspect that Andy Adams makes Melinda remember it is when they are alone and Melinda runs to the bathroom trying to avoid remembering it and what happened. We also have the second clue that Melinda calls him "IT" making is more suspicious.
PG 81 to 82: "I just want to sleep. The whole point of not talking about it, of silencing the memory, is to go away it won't. I'll need brain surgery to cut it out of my head": This quote reveals conflict in the story because we see that it is affecting Melinda a lot and her daily life. We see that this memory is affecting melinda and her sleep also
