Natural Occurrences
Volcanic Eruption
Cyclones
Tsunamis
A tsunami is a massive wave that is caused by underwater volcanic eruptions, underwater landslides or the most common one, underwater earthquakes. No matter how the tsunami is created, a burst of energy through the wave causes an extraordinary amount of damage.
Tsunamis are mainly know to be created in the Pacific Ocean and the Ring of Fire. The are more than 15 countries in the Ring of Fire, some include USA, Indonesia, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Guatemala, Russia, Chile, Peru and Philippines. The reason these places are called the Ring of Fire is because these places are near the borders of tectonic plates meaning more natural occurrences happen there more than anywhere in the world.
Volcanic eruption is caused when a divergent earthquakes happens to an oceanic plate and continental plate. The oceanic plate goes under the continental plate, the magma underneath is trapped with a lot of energy. The magma finds a way the break through the earth's crust causing an volcanic eruption.
The word volcano came from the name of the god fire, Vulcan. The named volcano after him because he was a destructive type of god. He was so conflagrations that people decided to name volcanos after him.
Earthquakes
Pompeii is one of history's most deadly volcanic eruptions.it was estimated that 1,500 to 2000 people died from the volcanic eruption. Some people believe that there were survives to this deadly moment but others think everyone died to some sort of natural occurrence.
In a Cyclone there are 5 categories.
Category 1 - The wind gust is 90-125 kph
Category 2 - The wind gust is 125-164 kph
Category 3 - The wind gust is 165-224 kph
Category 4 - The wind gust is 225-279 kph
Category 5 - The wind gust is more than 280 kph
The cyclone must be in these categories to be declared a cyclone.
In a Cyclone, the main two ingredients, warm temperature in water and a cluster of thunderstorms. The water must be at least 27°C to give energy to the thunderstorm.
The difference between a cyclone and tornado is when a tornado is created, it is formed by warm, humid are coiled together with cold, dry air. Wind is the main energy source to a tornado but water is the main energy source to a cyclone. Tornadoes mainly occur in the America and last 15 to 30 minutes. A cyclone mainly occur in the Pacific Ocean and last several days.
There are 3 types of earthquakes: Divergent - Divergent is when the plates of the earth slowly move apart.When a divergent happens to continental plates the land above moves apart. Example - Pangea ( all the continent joined together ) separated because of a divergent. Convergent - A convergent is when the plates of the earth go on top of each other, push each other upwards. A convergent can cause three diffrent things. If a oceanic plate went under a continental it can cause and create a vocanic reaction. If two continental plates were too collide during a convergent it can cause the creation of a mountain. Convergence also cause earthquakes. Transform is the type of earthquake where the tectonic plates slide by each other.
An earthquake is created when the tectonic plates move apart (divergent ), collied ( convergent ) or slide by each other ( transform ). All 3 types of earthquakes can have fatal effects to use humans but since tectonic plates are moving together it doesn't mean an earthquake is happening know ( it doesn't count! ).
An earthquake cause 2 deadly natural occurrences. An earthquakes cause tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. Any type of earthquake under water ( that has a lot of energy ) will cause a tsunami and a convergent earthquake causes a volcanic eruption! Fun fact
The word tsunami means Harbour Wave. Tsunami originated from two separate words. 'Tsu' meaning harbour was put together with the word 'Nami' meaning wave in japanese. That was when tsunami was created in the 19th century.
Tornadoes
Fujita Tornado Damage Scale is a way to categorise the amount of damage there was in the area that the tornado hit. These are the Fujita tornado damage scale:
F0 = 60 - 110 kph ( light damage )
F1 = 120 - 170 kph ( moderate damage )
F2 = 180 - 259 kph ( significant damage )
F3 = 250 - 320 kph ( severe damage )
F4 = 330 -410 kph ( devastating damage )
F5 420 - 510 kph ( incredible damage )
Believe it or not there have been tornadoes that have killed people here in Australia! Here is one: 14 August 1971, a tornado struck Kin Kin ( a small community between Noosa and Gympie north of Brisbane ) ending the lives of 3 people, destroying eight farmhouses and causing a lot of damage to a part of the town. The storm was created in the town at 9.30pm, the storm left a damage bill of more than $100,000!
A tornado is a type of storm ( with out rain ) that spins in a funnel-shaped cloud that has thunder storms giving it energy with winds reaching 482.803 kph
