Throughout the novel, The Call of the Wild, nature is used to show many common theories and philosophies within the novel
Social Darwinism
Buck is challenged by new living conditions, meaning he has to adapt to a new way of life. This is a clear example of Darwinism, a theory seen throughout the novel.
Buck who was just a house pet, eventually evolves into a leader amongst the other dogs. This proves that it is not the strongest species who survive, but those who can adapt to change.

Individualism
The novel reveals a traditional style of love and fair play, where at first Buck is living a happy and normal life, but is then challenged in some way, but then overcomes that obstacle and turns out superior to his past self.
Society
In the early 1900s, Jack London's literature provided insight into the lives of American citizens in society.
Buck is not just a dog, he is representing a human being during the industrialization era. He is fighting for survival in the lower class, trying to work his way to the top. Buck struggles in an environment full of challenges and has to overcome them throughout the story.
Buck's struggles are an accurate representation of lower-class people at the bottom of society in the 19th century. Both Buck's life and the lives of lower-class workers reflect a cruel reality of survival of the fittest.
Humanity
With Buck, London applies human qualities and attributes, such as thoughts and decision making skills.
We are filled in on Bucks, feelings and actions, through the third person of Buck. The readers learn the phycological planning that goes through Buck's head throughout the novel.
Upon many occasions throughout the novel, Buck gets compared to a working man in a time period full of hardships.
the "call" that Buck continues to hear that is drawing him closer to the wild, means more than Buck becoming a wild animal, but that he will have fully cut off all ties with human interaction, and left his past behind him.
