-
Non-financial Motivators
Delegation
Delegation is the assignment of any authority to another person (normally from a manager to a subordinate) to carry out specific activities.
Advantage: Gives the workers the ability to learn new methods and skills they previously didn't have increasing their long term worth for the business.
Disadvantage: Delegation can give very difficult work to employees that arn't skilled enough to do it.

Theories
Maslow
Maslow proposed that motivation is the result of a person's attempt at fulfilling five basic needs: physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualization. According to Maslow, these needs can create internal pressures that can influence a person's behavior.
Advantage: Another advantage of this theory is that it gives consideration to basic human nature that is demanding more as lower level needs are satisfied.
Disadvantage: it cannot be verified empirically, because there is no proper method to measure accurately how satisfied one level of need must be before the next higher level is needed.
Herzberg
The two-factor theory states that there are certain factors in the workplace that cause job satisfaction while a separate set of factors cause dissatisfaction, all of which act independently of each other.
Advantage: improves working environments and conditions so that employees feel motivated to work hard which in the long term will benefit the company as a whole.
Disadvantage: The disadvantage of this theory is that factors that motivate can change during an individual's lifetime. A young employee, for example, sees job security as a hygiene factor, whereas an older employee who relies more on his job, sees it as a motivator.
Taylor
Taylor's Motivation Theory is premised on the fact that employees are motivated to be productive by one thing, Money.
Advantage: Higher productivity could be accomplished by setting output and efficiency targets related to pay.
Disadvantage: It is a costly strategy, This means that due to motivation being money in order to retain motivation workers will always need that extra bit of motivation otherwise it may no longer be feasible and therefore may only be short term motivation.
Mayo
Employees are motivated far more by relational factors such as attention than by monetary rewards or environmental factors such as lighting, humidity.
Advantage; It gives more freedom to the entire worker. It is a sign of new hope. There is a great level of communication and teamwork.
Disadvantage: Due to workers having more freedom they may have more work and therefore it may be the main cause of stress. It is a sign of pressure. More freedom means that all people have less control over the worker.Jan 7, 2019
