Imitations
Citizen
Also helped with understanding of tone and creative diction, but really honed in on the idea of themes or a central style that was continued throughout a longer piece.
The whole process helped with understanding an author's process of writing, like setting a certain pattern and sticking with it.
As the essay progressed my understanding of consistency was increased significantly because while writing something it is easy to get off topic, but when you have a sort of guideline, like having the style to imitate, it is much easier to realize when you are off topic.

Reading a smaller piece of writing and then imitating it was a great way to focus on specific ways that a writer can take control of their creativity, and choose their own style.
It showed me that I can definitely develop my own tone and creative choices in writing if I tried to, but imitating someone else was great practice. It showed me how it's done.
Peer Reviews
The aspect of reading someone else's writing and identifying certain things for them to work on was a great way to practice for doing the same thing for my own writing.
It's hard to find the flaws in your writing because you wrote it, but looking at it from the perspective of if it were someone else's writing helps, and doing peer reviews is the only way to make this a solid strategy.

Annotations
These helped with identifying specific things that authors do to engage with their reader, which gives me example of how to do this myself.
Organization
We only did a few brainstorms and free-writes, but the ones that we did do definitely helped my hone in on my organizational skills.
The brainstorm for the final essay helped me ask questions about what i was thinking, which helped me with the skill of bringing out ideas in an organized manner.
The free-writes also helped with organization, but in a different way.
Because of the flow-y free style of it, the organization doesn't really come until the whole thing is finished. you can then see what was written and all your ideas are in front of you.

Citizen
This assignment was long and it helped to develop both tone and diction but in a larger scale, the consistency is what was practiced here.
Draft to draft i was challenged with a new problem involving my consistency throughout the essay, so this was a strong assignment when it comes to growth
Problem Identification
All the peer reviews helped me with the process of reading writing and identifying not only flaws but weak areas as well.
more specifically though, the peer reviews for the final essay were extra helpful because seeing multiple peoples very different approaches to a similar prompt really helped my locate where i went wrong.
Getting peer reviewed was also great for me. Even if i disagreed with what people were saying it was still a great way for me to see where readers might misunderstand what i wrote and focusing there.
