Pope Urban II
Urban first launched a titanic armed pilgrimage in Clemore, France, which would in time be known as the first Crusade
CRUSADES TIMELINE:
The first Crusade occurred between 1096 and 1099. Astonishingly, the crusaders were successful against the Islamic forces. Most people were inexperienced in terms of warfare and were unprepared for the horrors that they would face, driven solely by their faith.
The second crusade occurred between 1145 and 1149. The Crusaders split their army in two. These two armies took separate routes and were separately defeated by the Turks.
In the third crusade, the leaders of the three most powerful Western countries sent forces to retain the Holy lands. It occurred between 1189 and 1192. This followed the capture of Jerusalem in 1187 by Saladin.
