WEEK 1
Geography is the study of the world around us. Studying Geography helps us understand how the earth works. This includes natural processes (such as volcanoes,floods and the weather) As well as human activities (such as mining, tourism and building cities.
7 CONCEPTS OF GEOGRAPHY
PLACE - places are part of the Earths surface that are identified and given meaning by people.
SPACE - The significance of location and spatial distribution in shaping characteristics of places, and how these places are managed and organised.
INTERCONNECTION - People, places and the environment are all connected, and because of this, we can understand why places are changing.
CHANGE - Lengths of time, both long and short, bring about change, and understanding these changes help us understand different places and environments.
ENVIRONMENT - Our lives depend on the environment, and how this dependence influence our lives.
SCALE - Different relationships can be more important depending on which scale you are analysing
SUSTAINABILITY - Maintaining our restoring environmental functions so that the environment can continue to sustain our lives.,
TYPES OF MAPS
PHYSICAL MAPS - shows the location and names of natural features (deserts, mountain,rivers and plains)
POLITICAL MAPS - shows the locations and names of built features of earth
DOT DISTRIBUTION MAPS - use dots/shapes to represent different features
CHOROPLETH MAPS - different shades of the same colour to give impressions
TOPOGRAPIC MAPS - using contour lines
WEATHER MAPS - Shows conditions in the atmosphere
WEEK 2
ALPHA - NUMERIC GRID REFERENCING
alpha numeric grid referencing is coordinates on a grid identifying places with a combination of numbers and letters
An example for this is a password.
SCALE
A scale is the distance on a map and the corresponding distance on the ground
it is used to measure the distance on the map with the correct method
DIRECTION
Direction is used to determine where things are in relation to other thing
to find where you're going and what place you are looking for

WEEK 3
4 FIGURE GRID REFERENCING
4-figure grid reference contains 4 numbers. ... The first two numbers are called the east, which is the number you would look for at the bottom of the map. The second two numbers are called the northing and represent the numbers you would look for on the side of the map.
It is used to find the coordinates

LATITUDE
latitude runs west to east around the globe
The main line for latitude is the equator
LONGITUDE
The longitude runs from north to south in the globe
The main line for longitude is the prime meridian
WEEK 4
TYPES OF LANDSCAPES
KARST - karst landscapes are are caves formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum.
HUMAN - human landscapes are man-made buildings like cities
ARID - arid landscapes are basically deserts like antartica
RIVERINE - riverine landscapes are rivers and lakes
MOUNTAIN - mountain landscapes are a place that have many mountains
LANDFORMS
a landform is a feature on the earths surface thats apart of a landscape
examples: river and mountains,
HOW ARE TECTONICS FORMED - hot magma wells up at the ridges, forming new ocean crust and shoving the plates apart
HOW ARE EROSIONS FORMED - Erosion happens when rocks and sediments are picked up and moved to another place by ice, water, wind or gravity.
CONFLICTS ON THE AMAZON
people that live inn the amazon rainforest are getting upset because people have been cutting trees and taking animals homes

4 TYPES OF WAYS PEOPLE USE THE LAND
ECONOMIC
and is a precious resource, and how it is used frequently creates tension between various stakeholders: the desire for preservation, the forces of growth, and the imperatives of public need.

CULTURAL
The connection to people and the land. The health of land and water is central to their culture.
SPIRITUAL
the myths and beliefs of the land that mean something to people
Many indigenous people believe that the land, sky, water and its people are inseparable; they are all connected
AESTHETIC
The aesthetic value of land is the value of beauty and uniqueness of the land and attraction of people

CONFLICT
The conflict on land occurs when people see the land for different uses
the different water uses to people in the land

they form when 2 plates pushes against eachother

Mountains are good attraction to tourist because of the beauty of the mountains also the sports and weather
