When thyroid dysfunction is caused by failure of the pituitary gland, the hypothalamus it is known as central hypothyroidism it maybe referred to as pituitary thyroidism, if its caused by entirely the pituitary disorder. disorder of the hypothalamus results in inadequate secretion of TSH because of decreased stimulation by TRH.
