DEFINITION
It is a adult hypothyroidism
Where all body processes become slow
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Level of TSH is high which indicate defect in the thyroid
Low TSH also indicate problem with pituitary gland or hypothalamus
The level of T3 and T4 are low
CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
constipation
husky voice
Decrease in appetite
On set is low
Enlarged thyroid
Swollen face and eyelids
Sluggishness mental activities
PHARMACOLOGY
Levothyroxine T4
Liothyronine T4
Thyroid treatment
DIAGNOSTIC STUDY
Thyroxin index test
Total serum thyroxin
Diet
Provide patient with food low in fat and cholesterol and salt
Avoid processed foods
Patient should eat sweet potato
Limit intake of cabbage,Brussels sprout and cauliflower
Avoid food rich in sodium
NURSING CARE PLAN
Decreased Appetite
Provide client with assistance during eating
Ensure patient take in necessary nutrients
Monitor patient intake and output
Imbalanced nutrition more than body requires
Encourage patient to follow low cholesterol diet
Advise patient to eat six small meals through the day
Assess the clients weight
Encourage food intake rich in fiber
Evaluation

HEALTH EDUCATION
Educate patient about importance of maintaining weight
Avoid taking calcium within 4 hours of taking thyroid medication
