diabetic consultant

inspect foot daily for changes like:
ingrown toenaols
redness, tenderness or swelling
cuts, cracks, blisters or sores
foot temperature
infection
foot colour
self management to reduce the chances of developing serious foot conditions - prevention
conducting daily foot exams
taking necessary medications
managing your diet
Engaging in daily exercises
managing your blood glucose
avoid walking barefoot
trim your toesnails
right choosing of the foot wear
don't smoke
Tools required
a biothesiometer
small plastic instrument (monofilament)
a celibrated tuning fork
comprehensive foot examination
assessment for loss of protective sensation
assessment of pedal pulses- presence of pedal pulses does not absolutely exclude peripheral arterial disease
inspection
daily foot monitoring can help reduce more complications that may develop of diabetes
-serious complications caused by diabetes may include amputation
additional evaluation
evaluation of neuropathy
evaluation of peripherial artery disease
evaluation of existing ulcers
