ENERGY
Energy Stores
and Systems
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred between stores
-
Energy is transferred mechanically (by a force doing work) or electrically (work done by moving charges.), or by heating or radiation
Energy is transferred when work is done, when a system changes.
A system is an object or a group of objects. When the system changes, energy is transferred.
-
-
Energy can be transferred when work is done. Work can be done when current flows or by a force moving an object.

PRACTICAL
-
Measure the mass of the block, then
wrap it in an insulating layer.
-
Measure the initial temperature
of the block and the set the potential
difference of the power supply to 10V
-
-
Calculate the power supplied using P = VI, then use this to calculate how much energy has been transferred to the heater using E = Pt
