What affected the 2019 election
The election campaign
Parties splurged the cash on social media such as Facebook. The conservatives paid for 2,500 compared with 3,000 for the Liberal Democrats, but only 250 for Labour
It was a presidential-style campaign. Between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn both travelled up and down the country to appeal to voters.
Fake news, Labour claimed that the Conservatives trade deal with the US after Brexit could cost the NHS up to £500m a week, by driving up the prices of medicines. This was fact checked and was proven wrong
Bojo funny Love Actually parody
Bojo fail to show for Andrew Neal interview
Bojo stealing phone with pic of young boy asleep on floor in hospital
Ice blocks @ election debates
Bojo ran a great campaign, targeting marginal seats successfully. He even managed to win Major Labour strongholds like Blithe Valley and Bolsover.
Party policies and manifestos
Climate change appeared in all manifestoes
Policies regarding Brexit differed
Cons-- Oven reay deal for Brexit. Willing to accept no deal.
Labour-another referndum (indecisive)
Very high spending for Labour- BT nationisation Railways nationalisation
Tories- increased police numbers/ more nurses/ teachers £30k
Lib Dems 1p on the £
The wider political context
The election campaign has been marked by calls for tactical voting from both sides in the Brexit debate.Prof Stephen Fisher, an election analyst at the University of Oxford, says: "Among Leave supporters, tactical voting is likely to come into play in constituencies where the Brexit Party and the Conservatives are competing to take a seat from a party that is sympathetic to another referendum.
"Tactical voting among Remain supporters is much more complicated because it involves more parties, with varying Brexit policies."
Brexit- this election was about which party could get brexit done (or reverse).
The electorate decided they wanted Brexit done (due to FPTP) because more of the electorate voted for anti-Brexit/ another referendum parties, than Brexit parties.
Climate change- even the Brexit Party had polices on climate change tackling.
